Live Wallpapers for Apple Pro Display XDR 6K

Pro Display XDR puts 6016 × 3384 pixels across 32 inches of mini-LED panel — 216ppi, P3, and a sustained 1000-nit with 1600-nit peak HDR window that no other desktop monitor matches. It was built for colour-critical work, which makes it the display where a procedural wallpaper either proves itself or embarrasses itself: a shader that clips its highlights or dithers a dark gradient will show every flaw at this brightness range, and a shader with a proper HDR pipeline keeps detail in both the flare and the shadow. The native 16:9 ratio at 6K also means the wallpaper renders at the same framing the sandbox previews, with roughly 2.5× the pixels of a 4K display — enough resolution that thin geometry, text and particle trails stay clean rather than dissolving into the pixel grid.

Calibration & performance on this panel

Calibration baseline is 16:9, matched exactly — no crop, no scaling, so the composition in the preview is the composition on the desktop. The load question at 6K is fill rate, not shader complexity: every theme page lists measured GPU frame time for this resolution class, and all of them hold the 60Hz panel rate because the drawing runs on the GPU while the CPU overhead stays in the low single-digit percent. Two practical notes for this panel: run the wallpaper at native 6016 × 3384 only while plugged in, since pushing 20 million pixels on battery is the one measurable cost on an otherwise idle machine, and prefer themes with real black in them — the local dimming array is the reason an XDR display is worth using for motion at all.

Start with the Standard Widescreen (16:9) (16:9) edition of Black Hole — rendered at your exact resolution — or browse the full procedural directory.
