Studio & Engine Overview

Live wallpapers built as programs, not video loops.

Novaframe is an independent software studio founded by Toby Daeche in Hatfield, United Kingdom. We build lightweight, battery-aware GPU live wallpapers and a dedicated native desktop engine for macOS and Windows.

The Problem: Why Traditional Animated Wallpapers Fail

Video Loops Waste Energy & Battery

Most animated wallpaper tools loop pre-rendered MP4 or WebM video files behind your desktop icons. Continuous video decoding stresses CPU hardware codecs, generates battery-draining heat, spins up cooling fans on laptops, and consumes hundreds of megabytes of RAM just to play a five-second looping clip.

The Novaframe Procedural Approach

Novaframe wallpapers are executable programs written with WebGL, WebGPU, and Canvas2D shaders. Instead of decompressing video frames, your GPU computes pixels mathematically in real time. Total asset sizes range between 20 KB and 2 MB, the motion never visibly loops, and the visual resolution scales pin-sharp to 4K, 5K, and 6K Retina displays.

Engine Architecture: Native OS Level Desktop Injection

A dynamic wallpaper is only as good as the system layer executing it. The Novaframe Engine is built in Rust using the Tauri v2 framework rather than bundling a bloated Electron runtime.

macOS Private API Layering

On macOS, the engine attaches directly beneath desktop icons using native window server levels. It operates as a true system wallpaper, remaining stable across Space switching, Mission Control, and Stage Manager without intercepting desktop mouse clicks.

Windows WorkerW Injection

On Windows 10 and 11, the engine locates the Shell Desktop window and inserts its viewport behind the desktop ListView icons via Windows API WorkerW hooks, maintaining total desktop shortcut functionality.

Zero-Watt Background Pausing

The engine monitors active display bounds. Whenever a window covers the desktop, when a fullscreen 3D game launches, or optionally whenever a laptop disconnects from AC power, the render loop freezes completely, reducing CPU and GPU overhead to 0%.

Pre-Publish Theme Sandboxing

Every wallpaper in our marketplace passes automated static AST security analysis. Wallpapers run with strict Content Security Policies (CSP): no arbitrary network fetches, no dynamic code evaluation, and zero tracking scripts.

Seamless Deep Linking

With the native engine running in your menu bar or system tray, claiming or purchasing any wallpaper from your browser triggers the custom novaframe:// protocol, instantly downloading and activating the theme in one click.

Offline DRM & Device Freedom

Licenses allow activation on up to 3 personal machines simultaneously. Verification uses cryptographic JWT tokens that are stored locally, so your wallpapers continue running even when offline or traveling without an internet connection.

Business Identity & Consumer Trust

Novaframe is operated by Toby Daeche as a registered sole trader in the United Kingdom. We adhere strictly to the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and E-Commerce Regulations 2002.

Unlike anonymous online marketplaces or ad-supported wallpaper download aggregators, our business identity, physical trading address, and support contact points are published openly on every page. All customer payments are processed securely via Stripe using tokenized bank-grade encryption; we never store payment card credentials.
